Nintendo Direct Airing Tomorrow, Will Focus on Wii U and 3DS

Nintendo announces a Nintendo Direct presentation to air tomorrow, March 3rd, at 5pm Eastern time. The presentation will focus on upcoming Wii U and 3DS games.

With the release of Fire Emblem Fates, the horizon is looking pretty bare for the Nintendo faithful as it pertains to both the 3DS and the Wii U. However, that could all change tomorrow, as Nintendo has announced a surprise Nintendo Direct presentation, which will be dedicated to upcoming Wii U and 3DS titles releasing through this summer.

Nintendo didn’t state explicitly which games will be getting highlighted during tomorrow’s presentation. However, one can speculate. It is highly likely that Star Fox Zero will receive a lot of attention during the Wii U portion of the presentation, as it is arguably the biggest Wii U game with a release date in sight.

The Pokemon fighting game Pokken Tournament will also probably enjoy some spotlight in tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct. Nintendo has already revealed a lot about the game, and just recently released a new Pokken Tournament trailer that showed off some of the Pokemon fans can look forward to playing as come its release on March 18th. Having said that, unless Nintendo has more Pokemon to announce for the game, it’s difficult to see what the company has left to reveal in regards to Pokken Tournament.

Another possible Wii U game that may be discussed in tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. However, that game releases on Friday, so it would be preferable if Nintendo focused on games that are due for release a bit later in the year instead.

One game that many Nintendo fans would undoubtedly want to see during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct is the new Zelda game for Wii U. Unfortunately, with recent rumors pointing to The Legend of Zelda for Wii U going to NX, it seems unlikely that Nintendo will mention the game during tomorrow’s presentation. This is because Nintendo has said that tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct will not feature the NX in any capacity, and it wouldn’t benefit the Big N to bring up the Wii U version of the game again before the company is ready to talk about the NX version as well.

As for the 3DS side of the equation, the well is even drier than the Wii U. Right now, the only big first party 3DS title on the way that isn’t Pokemon Sun and Moon is a port of the Wii U game Hyrule Warriors. With Nintendo already dedicating a previous Nintendo Direct to Pokemon, it seems unlikely that those two games will be mentioned during tomorrow’s presentation.

This leads one to believe that Nintendo may have some surprises up its sleeve for 3DS owners. After all, the 3DS is significantly more successful than the Wii U, and even though 3DS sales are beginning to slow down, the handheld is still going strong. Unless Nintendo plans on revealing the successor to the 3DS anytime soon, tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct will hopefully give 3DS fans a lot to look forward to throughout the rest of 2016.

The next Nintendo Direct will air tomorrow, March 3rd at 2pm Pacific/5pm Eastern time.
