The latest mod for Bethesda’s popular Fallout 4 allows gamers to play as the main characters from Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Since its release in November, Fallout 4 has become a modders haven for all things weird, funny, and awesome. One of the latest mods takes inspiration from 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and sees the arrival of Big Boss and a number of his fellow major characters into Fallout 4’s Boston Commonwealth.

Thanks to the efforts of modder Akiba91, the “Metal Gear Solid – ALL IN ONE STANDALONE” mod allows Venom Snake, Skull Face, and the sniper Quiet to be playable characters in the game. Not only are gamers now able to run around the wasteland as a Metal Gear Solid character, but the mod also comes with a wide range of interchangeable Metal Gear Solid equipment such as clothing, gear, and faces. After its initial release in late-January, the mod has been periodically updated with additional customization assets.

For those worried about any possible copyright repercussions from Konami, Akiba91 says that they’ve received full approval from the company to make this mod. Despite being painted as the bad guy during all the drama involving Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, it appears that Konami is slowly trying to win back the favour of fans who were upset at their treatment of Kojima.

The Boston Commonwealth has seen its share of creative mods over the last few months. These have ranged from terrifyingly weird, such the replacing of every mini-nuke in the game with exploding Atom Bomb Babies, to downright nightmare-inducing, such as when Thomas the Tank Engine replaced every Deathclaw, vertibird, and explosive weapon available in the game. And of course, who could forget that time when Deathclaws became outfitted in a bizarre Randy Savage Macho Man skin?

This isn’t the first instance of a Bethesda game being showered with massive support from the modding community. Going back as far as 2002’s Morrowind, fans have continually inundated Bethesda games with mods that range from graphical improvements to entirely new and playable worlds. There’s no doubt that the mod support has been impressive, but expect to see even more modding antics when Bethesda finally releases the Fallout 4 Creation Kit mod tools for all platforms sometime this year.

Fallout 4 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The “Metal Gear Solid – ALL IN ONE STANDALONE” mod is currently only available for the PC version of the game.
